We enjoy all sorts of literacy work in the senior classroom. Recently, after reading about various events, and people in aviation history, including Wilbur and Orville Wright, Amelia Earhart and John F. Kennedy Junior, we were tasked with writing a persuasive piece on why we should not fear flying. Working individually or in pairs, we did some online research on aviation accidents and we discovered that flying is one of the safest ways of travelling so, of course, that was one of the main arguments in our persuasive piece. In poetry, we explored the poem, ‘The Spider and the Fly‘ by Mary Howitt, and we really enjoyed using reader’s theatre to recite the poem in groups. We also participated in a World Book Day live story writing lesson and we wrote some amazing stories on the magic library.
