Our school has recently completed and ratified the Bí Cineálta Policy, the national procedures introduced in June 2024 to prevent and address bullying behaviour in primary and post-primary schools. This policy reflects our shared commitment to ensuring that every child in our school feels safe, respected and valued.
At the heart of our approach is the message created by our pupils themselves: “Be Kind, Be Brave, Bí Cineálta.” This slogan captures what we want our school community to stand for each day.
Being Kind means treating everyone with respect, including others, and thinking about how our words and actions affect those around us. Small acts of kindness help create a welcoming and supportive environment where everyone belongs.
Being Brave means speaking up when something is wrong. It means asking for help, supporting a friend, or telling a trusted adult if someone is being hurt or left out. In our school we encourage pupils to be brave and to remember that they are never alone when they need support.
Our school is also committed to being a “telling school.” This means that if a pupil experiences bullying or sees it happening, they are encouraged to tell a teacher, staff member or trusted adult. Telling is not telling tales — it is an important way of helping everyone feel safe. When concerns are shared, adults can step in, listen, and work with pupils to resolve the situation in a fair and supportive way.
The Bí Cineálta Policy includes clear procedures for preventing bullying, responding to concerns, supporting pupils involved, and promoting a positive school culture. It emphasises kindness, respect, inclusion, and open communication between pupils, staff and parents.
To help keep the message alive across the school, pupils played an active role in promoting the policy. Children created their own posters about kindness, bravery and respect, and these are proudly displayed throughout the school. These colourful, child-friendly posters remind us every day of the importance of looking after one another and creating a positive environment for all.
Through Bí Cineálta – Be Kind, Be Brave, we are working together as a whole school community to build a place where everyone feels safe, supported and respected. By choosing kindness, speaking up when something is wrong, and supporting one another, we help make our school a happy and welcoming place for all.
