Someone like Me – Winner

Last month, we were thrilled to hear that Niamh, from first class, had won the county junior section in the ‘Someone like Me’ competition. This competition aims to promote disability awareness among primary school children and give them a greater understanding of what unites children of differing abilities. ‘Someone Like Me’ enables children to learn about and discuss disability and creatively express what they’ve learned through art. Niamh obviously learned lots and completed an amazing entry and so was chosen as the County Sligo winner. Niamh travelled to Dublin this week to receive her award and we were delighted to watch a live stream of the awards ceremony in our classroom. We really cheered when Niamh was presented with her award and as a big surprise and to show how happy and proud we were, the kids in the senior room organised a whole-school ‘homecoming’ party for Niamh. We really enjoyed celebrating together and learning a little more about different abilities.
