Bee-eautiful Bees – Workshop

This week, as part of the Primary Colours Arts Education Programme, we completed the teacher-led art workshop. This workshop was inspired by “The Whisper of the Bees” exhibition by Sligo-based artist Heidi Wickham. For some time prior to this activity, we had been collecting various objects, e.g. bottle tops, aluminium can tabs, fabric pieces, buttons, wire, string, flowers, a thimble, etc. At the beginning of the lesson, we were given bee cardboard templates and our task was to create our own “Queen Bee” sculptures using our “found” objects and also various school resources, e.g. pipe cleaners, feathers, tinfoil, wool, fluffy balls, crepe paper, coloured card, paint, cardboard, tissue paper, etc. We thoroughly enjoyed this art lesson as it really gave us a chance to express our creativity and imagination and we are really proud of our very interesting and varied bee sculptures.
