The Model, Sligo

Earlier this week, we visited The Model, Sligo. While there, we were shown an exhibition of work by an Irish artist named Cléa van der Grijn. This exhibition, entitled “Reconstructing Memory” which includes film, photography, sculpture and paintings seeks to explore the approaches to death in Mexican and Irish cultures. This was a very interesting and unique visit as we were led to different rooms within The Model to view the various aspects of the exhibition. This movement from room to room helped us to appreciate that art exhibitions are not always about paintings and indeed it was very interesting to explore and discover the aspects of “art” which were featured in each of the different rooms. Though this exhibition was based on the theme of death and included a display of ceramic skulls and many items associated with death, we enjoyed our visit to “The Model” and we would welcome another visit.
